Roy had worked for Stonegate Farmers delivery firm for more than 40 years when he slipped on the icy tailgate of a lorry and severely injured his shoulder. A similar, but not as serious, incident had occurred less than a year earlier which meant his shoulder was already weakened. Roy's employer had failed to provide him with salt to put on the tailgate, which would have prevented him from slipping.
After surgery, Roy was left with just 50% use of his shoulder and, when his employer stopped paying him sick pay, he was forced to retire. Thompsons Solicitors fought to successfully secure compensation for Roy's injuries.
Roy said: “My employer of 40-plus years was so penny pinching that they wouldn’t even fork out for a bag of salt which would have cost them a few pounds. Their meanness cost me my health and my job.”
