Sabrina Lawlor Appointed as Northern Ireland Representative to APIL Executive Committee

May 28, 2025

APIL is a not-for-profit organisation that campaigns on behalf for people who have been injured through no fault of their own. Made up of dedicated personal injury lawyers across the UK, APIL is committed to protecting the rights of injured people and promoting access to justice.

Sabrina’s appointment recognises her longstanding dedication to supporting those affected by serious and catastrophic injury. With over 16 years’ experience, Sabrina has practised across the UK, the Republic of Ireland, and Australia, and now represents clients from Thompsons’ Belfast office.

Originally from County Fermanagh and a Queen’s University Law Graduate Belfast graduate, Sabrina has built a career advocating for those whose lives have been altered by injury. She strongly supports APIL/FOIL Serious Injury Guide, which encourages collaboration between personal injury lawyers and insurers to ensure early access to rehabilitation—a priority she champions in her practice.

“I’m honoured to be appointed APIL’s Northern Ireland representative,” said Sabrina. With experience spanning the UK and beyond, I bring a values-driven approach, a commitment to systemic change, and a passion for amplifying regional voices. Joining the Executive Committee is an opportunity to give back to an organisation I deeply respect—and to help shape the future of personal injury law for the better.

“APIL plays a vital role in campaigning to protect the rights of injured people and ensuring the law continues supportingthose who need it most. I’m looking forward to contributing to that mission.”

Sabrina’s recent casework includes supporting a young mother who suffered a severe traumatic brain injury following an accident at work and helping a child living with long-term physical and psychological consequences following a serious road traffic collision.

She is also a trustee of the charity After Matters, which supports young people aged 16 to 25 living with acquired brain injury with educational, employment and rehabilitation goals.

Paul Shevlin, the regional managing partner for Thompsons Solicitors Northern Ireland, said: “Sabrina’s appointment to the APIL Executive Committee reflects not only her legal expertise but also her dedication to securing compassionate, client-focused outcomes and driving improvements in the way injured people are supported across Northern Ireland and beyond.

“We congratulate Sabrina on this well-deserved appointment and look forward to seeing the positive impact of her contribution to APIL’s vital work.”
