Sling-the-Mesh

Talk to us

Sling the Mesh is a campaign raising awareness of the potential risks associated with vaginal and rectal mesh surgery.

The campaign was launched in 2015 by journalist Kath Sansom following reports that hundreds of people in the UK had been left in pain by mesh implants that were used to treat prolapse and incontinence, usually after childbirth.

Sling the Mesh argues that surgeons and manufacturers have failed to warn patients of the dangers associated with the surgery. It advocates a full investigation and audit into how many people are suffering because of vaginal and rectal mesh surgeries, and a pause in surgeries while that is carried out. It is also calling for the creation of a national register that enables the health of those affected to be appropriately monitored, and for the NHS to write to and advise everyone who has had such operations to visit a GP if they are suffering pain from the mesh.

In addition to raising awareness of the risks of mesh surgeries, the campaign provides online support forum for victims and their families, through its Facebook and Twitter pages.
