Julie's case experience

  • Settled a protective award for £750,000 for 400 union members when their employer agreed to reinstate their terms and conditions on holiday entitlement and compensate them for any losses incurred.
  • Secured £15,000 in a claim for unfair redundancy and sex discrimination for a union member who had very quickly secured alternative employment on more advantageous terms and had received an enhanced contractual redundancy payment.
  • Secured £14,000 for a member who had worked term time unaware that she was entitled to receive holiday pay. She was awarded £10,865 along with five years' back payment of employer pension contributions.
  • Secured a tribunal decision in a case which dealt with fragmentation following a TUPE transfer that there could not be a service provision change if it was not possible to identify where the council's former activities had transferred from.

Testimonials

The case was intricate and at times downright difficult with a stubborn employer. I would like to say that Julie's work and knowledge on the issues have been first class and the advice and her work ethic on this matter second to none.

Julie's former client

As a group, we felt that we had a justifiable grievance, and were extremely pleased that UNISON and Thompsons agreed and took the case forward. Obviously, we were subsequently delighted with the outcome, and for this, we are extremely grateful for the part that Thompsons, and in particular, Julie Brodie, played in achieving a satisfactory settlement. I found that Julie was very efficient in grasping the issue, processing the paperwork, explaining the legal procedure in "layman's terms", and through ACAS, achieving the result that we were striving for. Once again, many thanks.
