Matthew takes pride in Thompsons' solid track record in clinical negligence law, embracing the firm's commitment to standing up for those injured through no fault of their own and pursuing justice via legal work and public advocacy.

Outside of work, Matthew cherishes spending time with his young family, engaging in charity events, and staying active by participating in half marathons.

Matthew's case experience

  • Settled a birth injury case where the capitalised value was in excess of 10 million, which included large interim payments during the progress of the claim to put in place a care and therapy package for the client and enable the family to move to a property that was more suited to their needs.
  • Settled a claim for 775,000 involving functional neurological disorder following negligent surgical treatment, leading to the claimant suffering significant effects on her ability to work and to carry out domestic and personal tasks. The case has been reported in Lawtel, which can be found here, and in a podcast here.
  • Settled a case for a client arising out of a failure by an accident & emergency department to recognise and act upon symptoms of a stroke.  The client was wrongly discharged having been diagnosed with labyrinthitis.  Our client unfortunately went on to suffer a significant stroke, something which we alleged would have been avoided with appropriate treatment at the accident and emergency department.  Our clients speech and movement were affected as a result of the stroke.  The case was denied by the Defendant throughout, but settled for a six figure sum shortly before trial.
  • Settled a birth injury case where the client suffered avoidable hypoglycaemic damage to his brain which resulted in moderate learning disabilities, developmental difficulties, speech difficultys and behavioural difficulties.  Judgement was entered in favour of our client and investigations were then undertaken to establish the extent of the injuries that our client had suffered.  At the conclusion of this process a multi million pound settlement figure was agreed with the Defendant following negotiations, with this settlement then later being approved by the Court.
  • Secured a 7 figure settlement for a client who suffered an above knee leg amputation after a delay in doctors identifying that the blood flow to our clients leg had been compromised following routine surgery.  By the time the compromised blood flow had been identified it was sadly too late to avoid the amputation.  The case was defended throughout but settled 5 months before trial.  The significant sum of compensation obtained ensures that our clients future needs, in areas such as care and accommodation, can now be met.

Matthew's former client

I wish that I could give Thompsons more than 5 stars, because they have been utterly fantastic. Matthew Jones dealt with my husband's clinical negligence case. When we started the case, we had no idea of how long it would take or what would be involved. We knew it would be difficult at times and if it had not been for Matthew and his fanastic team, I don't think we would have been able to cope. Throughout the entire process they have been caring, considerate, approachable and always kept us informed and made sure that we were okay at all times. Their professionalism, compassion and expertise has meant that not only we have kept our sanity through all of this, we have also kept our faith in humanity and a belief that things really do work out in the end. Although nothing can ever give us back what we have lost, Matthew and his wonderful team (Lisa Osbourne and Marta) at Thompsons have ensured that we can face the future with optimism and confidence and without all of the worries that we previously had. They brought our case to a successful conclusion and helped to change our lives for the better. We cannot thank them enough or recommend them more highly.
