Thompsons Solicitors launches new advice on industrial diseases for prison officers

Thompsons Solicitors has launched new advice for members of the Prison Officers Association to explain how they can access support and compensation if they’ve been affected by an industrial disease.

The booklet, titled ‘Shining a light on industrial disease’, contains information on different types of industrial disease, including tuberculosis, latex allergies, dermatitis, industrial deafness, as well as asbestos-related diseases, such as mesothelioma, and how they may affect prison officers.

Industrial disease compensation claims can often be complex as exposure can take place decades before an illness is diagnosed. Thompsons Solicitors has specialist teams who have the expertise to build a strong evidence-based case to help secure compensation.

POA members, who use the union legal service provided by Thompsons Solicitors, are entitled to free legal advice and representation, and keep 100% of their compensation, whatever the injury or illness and however complex the claim.

Gerard Stilliard, head of personal injury strategy at Thompsons Solicitors, said: “Test cases run by our specialist teams have established much of the law governing industrial disease claims. That knowledge, coupled with our commitment to the trade union movement and to represent only injured people, never employers or insurers, means that we fight harder and smarter to secure the best possible outcome for clients in the shortest possible time.

“We hope that our industrial disease advice booklet will prove to be a useful resource for POA members and would urge anyone who fears they may have contracted a work-related illness or condition to get in touch to discuss whether or not they may have a case for compensation.

“Thompsons Solicitors is proud to stand up for POA members with legal services accessible through a dedicated advice line on 0800 5787515.”
