Asbestos disease victim appeals for information from former workmates

A former worker at a ceramic insulation manufacturers, Morganite Thermal Ceramics, is launching an appeal to contact workmates to get in touch following his diagnosis of asbestos-related disease.

Eric Peers, 70, from Cheshire, worked in various roles for Morganite Thermal Ceramics Limited, also known as Morganite Ceramic Fibres, from 1969 to 1993 at its premises on Liverpool Road, Neston and later Teebay Road, Bromborough.

Eric was initially employed as a production assistant, responsible for cutting insulation material from the production belt and boxing it. He had also held various posts at the company including shift manager and production superintendent.

It is believed that Eric was exposed to asbestos dust during his employment with Morganite Thermal Ceramics, and has now been diagnosed with Pleural thickening – a condition which causes breathlessness.

Following his diagnosis, Eric contacted the Merseyside Asbestos Victims Support Group and instructed industrial disease specialists Thompsons Solicitors in Liverpool.

He said: “I had no idea at the time that working with asbestos could be so harmful. No one ever warned us of the dangers.

“I worked hard at my job for decades and now my reward is a disease that has left me short of breath and stops me living my life fully. Even climbing the stairs leaves me breathless.”

Eric is now appealing for anyone who worked at Morganite Thermal Ceramics and Morganite Ceramic Fibres to come forward with information about the working conditions.

Joanne Candlish, the solicitor from Thompsons representing Eric, said: “Asbestos-related diseases is the biggest industrial killer of all time.

“It’s important that Eric Peers’ former workmates, or anyone else who worked for the company at that time, comes forward with any information that might assist.”

Anybody who may have any recollection about the conditions at Morganite Thermal Ceramics and Morganite Ceramic Fibres should contact Joanne Candlish at Thompsons Solicitors’ Liverpool office on 0151 224 1644.
