‘Danielle’s Flutterbyes’ – charity set up in memory of Danielle Stretton who died of kidney failure after her illness was left untreated

'

A charity, set up in memory of Danielle Stretton, a 24 year old woman who tragically died after her renal condition was left untreated, will offer support to young people suffering from kidney failure.

The charity, ‘Danielle’s Flutterbyes’, has been set up by Danielle’s mother, Ruth Braddock, following her premature death on Boxing Day in 2014. The charity, which is inspired by Danielle’s love of butterflies, will offer respite to young people aged between 18 and 30 who are suffering with kidney failure by providing trips away, fun activities and a chance to escape the difficulties of living with a serious renal condition. The charity will also aim to raise awareness of kidney failure in young people by placing posters in doctors’ surgeries.

Danielle’s mother Ruth, said: “We lost our Danielle in the most tragic circumstances and the past year has been truly horrendous.

“Through supporting Danielle with the emotional and physical difficulties she faced in the last years of her life, we understand the agony that people with kidney failure face. We hope ‘Danielle’s Flutterbyes’ will help put a smile back on the faces of young people living with devastating renal conditions.

“As a small local charity, we rely on the generosity of the public and appreciate any donation, however big or small, to help us support renal patients across Nottinghamshire and raise awareness of kidney failure in young people.”

Sharon Banga, a clinical negligence solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors who represented Danielle, said: “Danielle’s case is a devastating example of medical negligence – if her condition had been properly diagnosed and treated her death may have been avoided.

“Danielle’s Flutterbyes’ is a touching tribute to a wonderful young woman and a cause which will help support many young people living with kidney failure.”
