Thompsons Solicitors' specialist clinical negligence team is encouraging patients treated by consultant urologist, Paul Miller, to seek legal advice after the surgeon was suspended in December 2013 amid fears he may have mistreated cancer patients.
Paul Miller treated patients at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital and East Surrey Hospital between 2006 and 2013. Following an investigation by the Royal College of Surgeons, it was found that 27 people came to harm under the care of Mr Miller.
The Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust believes that up to 1,200 prostate and bladder cancer patients may also have been mistreated.
Joint head of the medical negligence team at Thompsons Solicitors, Linda Millband, said: “In November last year we held an open day for concerned patients of Paul Miller and we are currently advising some of them. Others are likely by now to have had their recall appointment and will now know to what extent they may have been affected by his practices.
'We remain committed to offering advice and support to anyone affected by treatment from Paul Miller.
'Understanding where you stand legally, regardless of whether or not you decide to pursue a compensation claim, can be an important step in dealing with the fears that come with the possibility of mistreatment. Having dealt with hundreds of different types of medical negligence claims, we understand that each individual case is different and are here to support anyone who believes they may have been mistreated by Paul Miller’s medical practices.'
