Five-figure settlement secured for woman injured abroad

Thompsons Solicitors has secured £21,500 for a London woman who has been left with permanent scarring following an accident she suffered on holiday in the US.

The 49-year-old was hit on the head by a retractable barrier at the car park of an apartment complex in Los Angeles, after a security guard lowered the barrier, unaware that she was directly beneath it.

She was taken to hospital, where she had eight stitches for a laceration in her forehead, as well as tetanus injections. She was left with a permanent, four-centimetre scar on her forehead and she was in pain for the rest of her trip.

On returning to the UK, the woman turned to accident abroad specialists Thompsons Solicitors to make a compensation claim against the UK-based tour operator that she had booked her holiday with.

She said: “My family and I were on the trip of a lifetime. Travelling across the US was something we had been looking forward to for ages. The accident happened quite early into the trip and I not only had to go to hospital but had to visit a separate hospital in New York to have the stitches removed.

“I am very grateful to everyone at Thompsons Solicitors who supported me with my compensation claim.”

Laura Morris, of Thompsons Solicitors, said: “The Package Travel, Package Holiday and Package Tour Regulations allow people who have suffered a personal injury on a package holiday to make a personal injury compensation claim in the UK.

“We would highly recommend anyone injured on a package holiday to get in touch with Thompsons Solicitors to check if they are able to make a compensation claim.”
