Francesca Quintyne's legal team to act for other victims of machete attack

Thompsons Solicitors, the firm which acted for Francesca Quintyne in her battle for increased compensation for the horrific injuries she sustained in the Teddy Bears' Picnic machete attack, has received instructions from the families of the two other children injured in the attack.

Lawyers from Thompsons will now study the detail of the settlements the families accepted and decide whether they can reapply to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority for an increase in compensation to reflect the psychological trauma they, like Francesca, have suffered and to pay for ongoing medical needs.

Tom Jones, a partner at Thompsons, said the firm was hopeful of finding a way of taking the children's cases back to the CICA.

'Whilst this is early days for our involvement, the awards made to these two children appear, like that made to Francesca, an insult. Still worse it appears that because their families did not receive proper advice and representation they were unaware that they could get more.

'We will be examining the CICA rules in detail and hope to be able to have these cases, which appear to be a travesty of justice, re-examined.'
